Opposition Party Chairman’s Adviser Mammad Ibrahim detained

On 29 September, the Advisor to the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) Ali Karimli was detained. Mammad Ibrahim was taken to the Narimanov district Police Office #18, reported his son Togrul Ibrahim. Ibrahim was released after providing a statement.

According to Ibrahim, someone named Mikayil Guliyev had been sending him abusive messages via Facebook, but he had not replied to any of them.

“On 29 September, when I went to meet my APFP colleagues in Narimanov, I saw Mikayil Guliyev there and told him to not swear at me. But he physically attacked me and when the people near us tried to pull him aside, his shirt was ripped slightly. Shortly after that, eight people arrived and took me to the police office, where Guliyev submitted a complaint against me. The police took my statement and told me that they would summon me again,” said Mammad Ibrahim.

Ibrahim was detained again the following day.  On October 3, he was sentenced to a two-month pre-trial detention on charges of Article 221.1 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code.
