Today Eldar Namazov, the chairman of organizational committee of the rally dedicated to freedom of expression and human rights defense held a press conference in the International Press Center.
Namazov noted that, today (on December 25) Rally Committee sent a letter to Baku City Executive Administration. In the letter it is noted that, the Rally Committee insists on conducting the rally in “Ukraine’ Square due to Decree of the chairman of Baku City Executive Administration 318# dated October 27, 2006. According to the Decree, that place is considered for the rallies. In the letter it is also demanded to reveal within 10 days the reasons for rejecting realization of the rally in “Ukraine” Square.
Recall that, Rally Committee on December 8 addressed an appeal related to conduction of the rally in “Ukraine” Square to Baku City Executive Administration. Baku City Executive Administration without showing any reason allowed them to conduct the rally not in “Ukraine” Square, but in “Bibiheybet” stadium. The Organizational Committee reviewed the selected area and on December 22 appealed again related to conduction of the rally in “Ukraine” Square due to inconvenient conditions for the conduction of the rally. Baku City Executive Administration again without showing any reason didn’t allow the conduction of the rally in “Ukraine” Square.
