A two-day OSCE meeting on promotion of pluralism in new media was held in Vienna on 7-8 July, 2011. The meeting was co-organized by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. Over 200 participants from more than 40 countries were in attendance.
Participants included officials from OSCE participating States, Institutions and field operations as well as representatives of international governmental and non-governmental organizations, media and civil society leaders.
The two-day meeting included three sessions where the attendees discussed challenges to media pluralism; the expression of multiple views on public issues; and how technological advances require new approaches to safeguarding existing OSCE commitments on media pluralism and freedom.
Azerbaijan was represented in the event by IRFS Director Emin Huseynov and Radio Liberty correspondent Khadija Ismayilova.
Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner held a concurrent event as well. He spoke about the situation of freedom of expression in OSCE member countries.
