OSCE REPRESENTATIVE ON FREEDOM OF MEDIA DUNJA MIYATOVIC MEETS WITH JOURNALISTS AND EYNULLA FATULALYEV

Today, 10 May, the OSCE representative for Freedom of Media Dunja Mijatovic met with Azerbaijani independent media representatives and journalistic organizations.

The meeting held in the OSCE Baku office was attended by the of Azadlig newspaper Editor in chief Ganimat Zahid, of the Zerkalo newspaper Editor in chief Elchin Shikhlinsky,  Turan Information Agency Director, Mehman Aliyev, New Generation Journalists’ Association Chairman Arif Aliyev, Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety representative Rasul Jafarov, IREX representative (Lawyer) Alesger Mammedli.
Representatives of the journalistic community informed Mijatovic about all aspects of problems of mass media in Azerbaijan, including the political, economic, legal as well as physical pressure on the press.
Dunja Mijatovic is in Baku with an official visit for discussing with the leadership of the country the issues on the freedom of speech under the obligations of Azerbaijan, as a member of OSCE.  
According to Radio Liberty, Mijatovic met with imprisoned journalist Eynulla Fayullayev, who is being held in prison # 1.
Dunja Miyatovic will meet with representatives of government and civil society.
