PACE COMITTEE ADOPTS DECLARATION AGAINST DEFAMATION

In a meeting yesterday, PACE’s Human Rights and Legislation Committee adopted a declaration.

The article on defamation in Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code was criticized in the declaration. According to “APA”, the declaration also criticized the arrests of “Radio Liberty” Nakhchivan correspondent Ilgar Nasibov (he has since been released) and Realny Azerbayjan Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Eynulla Fatullyev. In the declaration it is written that keeping defamation a criminal offense is a form of censorship and interferes with democratic debate.
