SAKIT ZAHIDOV REPORTEDLY STOPS HUNGER-STRIKE

leftThe Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety contacted the Public Relations Department of the Justice Ministry's Penitentiary System today.

A representative there told IRFS that Sakit Zahidov has already stopped the hunger-strike he started on 2 February.  The representative said, "The journalist did this because we have agreed to reconsider his transfer to the Chief Medical Facility of the Justice Ministry's Penitentiary System." To clarify this report IRFS contacted Head of Prison #14 Ershad Hasanov, but the Hasanov hung up the phone, refusing to answer the inquiry.
Today IRFS also spoke to Sakit Zahidov’s wife, Rena Zahidova. She told IRFS that a source who visited the prison today told her that Sakit Zahidov is continuing his strike. The source said to her, "Don't trust anybody, Sakit is hunger-striking".
