Imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper satiric/journalist Sakit Zahidov is unhappy about indifferent attitude towards him from “Azadlig” Newspaper.
Sakit Zahidov’s spouse Rena Zahidova, who visited the journalist in Prison #10 today (25 February), told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety. Noting that Sakit’s health is normal and he does not have any complaints about prison conditions, R. Zahidova said that the journalist only complained about “Azadlig” Newspaper. According to Zahidova, S. Zahidov is dissatisfied because his recent poems have not been published in the newspaper and the the newspaper leadership has not assisted his family. However, the journalist noted that he has not lost hope, and wants that all democratic forces to continue their intense struggle.
S. Zahidov wants to meet with human rights defenders, according to Zahidova.
Sakit Zahidov was arrested on 23 June 2006 for possession of narcotics (this charge is widely understood to be spurious) and was sentenced to three year imprisonment by the Grave Crimes Court.
