SPECIAL LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST DEPUTY EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF YENI MUSAVAT NEWSPAPER

Imprisoned Editor-in-chief of Ideal newspaper Nazim Guliyev and Bine Trade Center Deputy Director Dilshad Amirova filed a lawsuit in the special format against Yeni Musavat newspaper deputy editor-in-chief Azer Aykhan. The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety was told this by newspaper lawyer Vagif Huseyn.   

According to Vagif Huseyn, the lawsuit stems from articles about the plaintiffs that have been published in the newspaper since November 2008. The lawsuit seeks for A.Aykhan to be held responsible under article 147.2 (accusing someone in grave or especially grave crimes) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code.
V.Huseyn added that the lawsuit was accepted for consideration, and a preliminary hearing will be held in the Nizami District Court on 26 April, at 3:00 p.m., under the chairmanship of Judge Ziya Aliyev.
Ideal” Newspaper Founder Nazim Guliyev was sentenced for 6 month on 20 May 2009 under defamation charges. Later Nazim Guliyev was accused under articles 182.2 (to demand by threats), 182.2.3 (when the demand by threat is committed through violence), 182.3.2 (when committed to appropriate a large amount of property), 221.1(hooliganism), 234.1 (to illegally prepare, produce, obtain, keep, deliver, send and/or sell narcotics, psychotropic substances or their precursors) of Azerbaijan Criminal Code and was sentenced to 13 years 3 months imprisonment. After the arrest of N.Guliyev, Ideal newspaper ceased its publication. Ideal newspaper has been operating since 1998 and there have been several breaks in its publication. These were related mostly to founder Nazim Guliyev`s arrest.
Yeni Musavat newspaper has been published since 1992 and operates as daily newspaper and has large circulation.
