Yesterday, 8 September, the Commission formed by the Presidential State Fund to Assist Mass Media Development Monitoring Council conducted final evaluation on 10 appeals.
Plaintiffs – “Reyting”, “Khural”, “Turkustan”, “Yeni Khabar” newspapers, Independent Information Agency, Reporter Information Agency (RIA.az), “Eks-seda,” International Journalism Investigation Center, Regional Human Rights and Media Center and representatives of the Fund named after Shamsi Asadullayev were invited to the discussion. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by “Khural” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Avaz Zeynalli.
It was said during the meeting that the projects of these organs were not financed because “Yeni Khabar” had intervals in its publication, Independent Information Agency and Regional Human Rights and Media Center’s date of foundation did not conform to the terms. The projects of “Reyting”, “Khural”, “Turkustan” newspapers, Reporter Information Agency (RIA.az), “Eks-seda,” International Journalism Investigation Center, and the Fund named after Shamsi Asadullayev did not won because they had fewer points than the similar projects.
The Commission upheld the decision of the experts regarding these projects. To confirm the facts and opinions, all necessary documents were given to the plaintiffs. In addition, several opinions and facts were accepted for investigation.
Avaz Zeynalli told IRFS that it is absurd that the appeal commission was composed of the members of the Monitoring Council.
On 1 September the State Fund to Assist Mass Media Development unveiled the results of its first contest. Out of 112 projects 55 projects won in the contest; 30 (thirty) newspapers, 13 (thirteen) information agencies, 6 (six) journalist organizations and 6 (six) other related organizations.
