SUGGESTIONS FROM U.S. REPRESENTATIVES IN CONNECTION WITH FOREIGN RADIO STATIONS CONSIDERED

In connection with efforts to restore the FM broadcasts of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America in Azerbaijan, U.S. Ambassador in Azerbaijan Anne Derse has announced that it is possible for Azerbaijani radio to be broadcasts on FM waves, medium waves and/or shortwaves.

This was reported by RFERL.
Presidential Administration Socio-political Department Head Ali Hasanov told “Trend” News Agency that they do not see any problems with U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors and BBC Corporation representatives’ desire to continue airing their radio broadcasts via different means. Representatives from the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors submitted different suggestions to the National Television and Radio Council and other government representatives, and these suggestions are being considered, added A. Hasanov.
Representatives from the US Broadcasting Board of Governors are visiting Azerbaijan to carry out discussions with Azerbaijan's government about "Radio Liberty" and "Voice of America" radio stations.
Note that the FM broadcasts of "Radio Liberty," "Voice of America" and BBC in Azerbaijan were ceased on 1 January 2009 on the basis of a decision that Azerbaijan's National Television and Radio Council issued on 30 December 2008.
