Tagi Ahmadov demands 200 000 AZN from Azadlig newspaper

On June 4th Yasamal District Court under judge Elchin Gurbanov held a hearing on the lawsuit brought by Baku Metro director Tagi Ahmadov against Azadlig newspaper. Media Rights Institute lawyer Fariz Namazli reported to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) today.

According to the lawyer, two representatives of the plaintiff and a representative of the defendant attended yesterday’s court hearing. The defendant presented his objection to the court and Judge Namazli scheduled the next hearing for June 12th at 3:00pm.

 

Baku Metro director Tagi Ahmadov had appealed to Yasamal District Court against Azadlig newspaper, claiming that his dignity, honor, and business reputation were insulted in an article titled “Tagi Ahmadov appropriated 5 kopecks”.  Ahmadov asked the court to require the newspaper to issue a retraction and to pay 200,000 AZN compensation.
