Tax inspections in the Democracy and NGO Development Resource Centre Public Union in the Nakhchivan Autonomus Republic are continuing.
The Ministry of Tax of the Autonomous Republic said that the tax inspections will go on for one more month. The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety Nakhcivan correspondent was told this by Resource Center Chairwoman Malahat Nasibova.
“On 21 December 2009, the Ministry of Tax of the Autonomous Republic issued a decision to inspect financial documents of the Resource Center,” said M.Nasibova. “All documents were presented and the inspections were conducted. No law violation was revealed. Although we presented all the documents, they demanded the same documents again. Local authority organs deceived several international organizations stating that we did not present necessary documents to the tax office. This is a case of provocation against the Resource Center, and prolonging the term for tax inspections is means of pressure against our independent activity.”
Democracy and NGO Development Resource Centre employees faced harassment repeatedly in Nakhchivan. On 15 December, 2009, when a survey was conducted among students and teachers in Nakhchivan State University, Resource Center employees Ilgar Nasibov and Vafadar Eyvazov were attacked and injured.
