THOMAS HAMMERBERG HOLDS MEETINGS IN AZERBAIJAN

Yesterday, 2 March, CE’s Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammerberg met with President Ilham Aliyev within the framework of his visit to Azerbaijan. They discussed human rights, the regulation of the Armenian-Azerbaijan Karabakh conflict, among other issues. 

Hammerberg met with Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety Chairman Emin Husynov, Media Rights Institute Director Rashid Hajili, media expert Alasgar Mammadli and Democracy Monitor Head Fuad Hasanov. The situation of freedom of speech, media problems and issues related to imprisoned journalists were discussed during the meeting. 
T.Hammerberg met with other human rights organizations’ heads and he was briefed about the socio-political situation in the country and political prisoners.

Hammerberg also had a meeting with Press council Head Aflatun Amashov. He left for the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic yesterday.
