
The article states that in the 23 November 2008 edition of “Yeni Musavat” newspaper an article entitled “Destroyed (Tar-mar) Tartar,” that criticized Tartar’s executive power head Vidadi Isayev and high-ranking officials of the region, was published. According to the article, the newspaper has been facing threat ever since 23 November.
“Yeni Musavat” Newspaper assistant editor-in-chief Azer Aykhan told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that ever since the article “Destroyed (Tar-mar) Tartar” was published, threatening phone calls have been made to the newspaper’s editorial office on the order of high ranking officials of Tartar.
“These people, who introduce themselves as family members of war victims, demand that we publish a refutation in connection with articles about the executive power head,” said Aykhan. “If not, they say they will attack our employees and editorial office.”
