VIDADI ISGANDARLI TO ATTEND HIS NEXT HEARING

Today the Supreme Court chaired by judge Gulzar Rzayeva held a hearing on the cassation appeal filed by human rights defender and prisoner of conscience Vidadi Isgandarli against the November 2, 2011 decision of Shaki Appeals Court.

Isganderli’s lawyer Yalchin Imanov and public prosecutor Jeyhun Budagov attended the hearing.

Yalchin Imanov filed a motion requesting the court to allow Vidadi Isgandarli to attend the process. The judge granted the motion and appointed the next hearing for April 10th.

Human rights defender Vidadi Isgandarli was charged under Article 159.3 (interference in the voting process) and 160.1 (interference with the activities of the electoral commissions). On August 27, 2011 Goycay Regional Court sentenced him to 3 years in jail. On November 2, 2011 the Shaki Appeals Court upheld the decision of the court of first instance.
