YENI MUSAVAT NEWSPAPER’S LAWSUIT AGAINST “AZERIGAS” CONSIDERED

Yesterday, 13 April, in the Khatai district Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Habil Memmedov, a hearing was held on Yeni Musavat newspaper’s lawsuit against “Azerigas” Production Union Chief Akber Hajiyev regarding his failure to answer the information inquiry.

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) was told this by Yeni Musavat newspaper’s lawyer Vagif Huseyn.
V.Huseyn said that during the hearing he stressed that failure to respond to any information inquiry is unfounded and asked the court to fulfill the lawsuit. The defendant’s representative said that the required information is a commercial secret, and therefore asked the judge to consider the lawsuit unfounded.
Judge H.Memmedov scheduled the next hearing for 12 April, at 2.20 p.m.
In the information inquiry addressed to “Azerigas” Production Union Chief Ekber Hajiyev, Yeni Musavat newspaper requested information regarding the amount of yearly gas consumption for 2007-2008 in the locations operating within the category of wedding palaces, and the situation of payment separately for each location and year.
Yeni Musavat newspaper has been published since 1992 and operates as daily newspaper and has large circulation.
