YOUTH ACTIVIST’S TRIAL TO CONTINUTE ON APRIL 28

The Ganja City Nizami District Court failed to hold the trial scheduled for today on the criminal case opened against youth activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, charged with evading the army service, activists’ attorney Elchin Namazov told IRFS.

According to Namazov, the reason for postponement was the failure of the defendant side to attend the trial due to the ongoing preparation of several documents, motions of the defendant side. The trial will be held on April 28, 2011.
BACKGROUND
A criminal case against Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was launched in late January, 2011. At that time, he signed a statement of commitment not to leave Ganja city. In late February his pre-trial detention was replaced with release under police control.

On March 4, 2011, Hajiyev was sentenced to one-month pre-trial detention. It is widely thought that Hajiyev was arrested for his activity on social networking sites and his support of the March 11 Great People’s Day campaign.
