Despite a sharp deterioration of health, Saleh Rustamov has been on a hunger strike for 25 days, said his lawyer Bahruz Bayramov, who visited Rustamov on November 30 at the Medical Institution of the Penitentiary Service.
“Saleh’s health continues to deteriorate. He is not sleeping because of pain, but he will not stop the hunger strike,” said the lawyer.
“The hunger strike is approaching a critical point,” said the defender.
* A supporter of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, a veteran of the first Karabakh war, Saleh Rustamov was arrested in May 2018 and sentenced to 7 years 3 months in prison in the so-called case of “illegal financing of the Popular Front Party”. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. Subsequently, the Supreme Court reduced the sentence by 2 months. Since November 6, he has been on an indefinite hunger strike demanding his release.
