BROADCASTING OF “EURONEWS” TELEVISION CHANNEL VIA CABLE TELEVISIONS MIGHT BE CEASED IN AZERBAIJAN

Azerbaijani youth studying in France and other European countries are planning to conduct a protest action in front of the central office of Euronews television channel that is located in Lyon, France.  “Ireli” youth movement Chairman Ceyhun Osmanli told APA that the action is planned to be conducted this week.

National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) Chairman Nushiravan Maharramli told APA that if Euronews against Azerbaijan continues propaganda, National Television and Radio Council will demand that the channel ceases its broadcasting via cable network in Azerbaijan in accordance with the existing legislation. According to Maharramli, “Euronews” channel expressed its opinion regarding the issue and stated that they will prepare a program representing opinion of Azerbaijan provide a more balanced view.
“If they don’t show a balanced view there will be problems in the broadcast of the channel via cable in Azerbaijan. We will take adequate measures,” said Maharramli.
Nagorno Garabag was shown as separated part from Azerbaijan and head of separatism regime was presented as “President of Nagorno Garabag Republic” in the program named “Change Winds in Nagorno Garabag” broadcast on “Euronews” channel on 28 November.  
In the footage about Daglig (Nagorno) Garabag on Euronews channel, this area was interpreted as separate from Azerbaijan and the head of the separatist regime was introduced as the ‘President of Daglig (Nagorno) Garabag Republic. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent an objection letter to the TV channel.
The Euronews channel was created in 1993 and broadcasts in 130 country of the world in eight languages. The television channel is located in Lyon, France and does not have any representation in Azerbaijan. It is possible to watch the channel via satellite and cable television in Azerbaijan.
