Today in the Yasamal District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Khagani Tagiyev, a hearing on “Azadlig” Newspaper correspondent Agil Khalil’s lawsuit against the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, the Department to Investigate Grave Crimes of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, and the TV channels Lider, AZTV, ATV and Space was conducted.
First the judge expressed his opinion on an appeal that was presented in the last hearing on this case which sought permission to photograph and film the trial. The judge approved this appeal.
After this, “Lider” TV channel representative Elnur Hajizadeh presented a written protest against the lawsuit, and said, “This investigative material was given to us by the Prosecutor’s Office and disseminated with a court decision. It is obligatory to disseminate all material provided by state structures.”
Expressing his position on this matter, Khalil’s lawyer Elchin Sadigov noted that a representative from the Chief Prosecutor’s Office was once again not present at today’s hearing. “As it is noted in the lawsuit and in Elnur Hajizadeh’s protect, this material was provided by the Chief Prosecutor’s Office. Therefore it is vital that a representative from the Chief Prosecutor’s Office participate in the trial.
The judge noted that he will again appeal to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office about this matter, and scheduled the next hearing on this case for 23 July at 4 p.m.
