The European Commission submitted a documents packet regarding the implementation of the European Neighborhood Policy.
The documents packet included the assessment of the five year execution of the European Neighborhood Policy, reports covering the development of 12 countries including Azerbaijan in 2009, and reports regarding separate fields.
According to Turan Information Agency, on 12 May, EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Head Roland Kobia gave information about it during his meeting with journalists. “There have not been improvements in the defense of human rights and fundamental freedoms,” said Roland Kobia who added that they regularly receive information about cases of threats against journalists and people who criticize the government, and criminal procedures against political activists.
Kobia said that additional efforts should be made to strengthen political dialogs and reforms, the justice sector, rule of law, and increase the independence of justice system. He particularly stressed that the correct execution of legislation be adopted in all fields, and the continuous fight against corruption should be a priority.
