HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER HOLDS PRESS CPNFERENCE REGARDING LAWSUITS AGAINST HIM

Today, 5 May, in the press centre of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS), human rights defender Vidadi Isgenderov held a press conference regarding three special format lawsuits filed against him under article 147.2 (accusing someone in grave or especially grave crimes) of the Criminal Code.

He informed the participants about the special format lawsuits filed against him in the Yasamal District Court by Goychay Region Police Department Chief Vugar Memmedyarov, Goychay Region Police Department Investigation Department Chief Rufat Ibayev and Goychay region Police Department Chief Inspector on Administrative Prosecutions Bakhtiyar Hashimov.

V.Isgenderov said that Goychay region resident, owner Gudret Zulfugarov appealed to him regarding the violation of his rights by the region’s police employees, and he held a press conference regarding this in the press centre of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS). “

“Articles were published in the newspapers about this press conference,” said Isgandarov. “After this I faced pressure from Goychay region law-enforcement organs.” V.Isgenderov added that he can be imprisoned on the basis of these lawsuits.

The plaintiffs claimed that V.Isgenderov used libel against them in the article entitled “Police got a 3000 AZN bribe from me” published on 2 April in Azadlig newspaper and filed special format lawsuits under article 147.2 (accusing someone in grave or especially grave crimes) of the Criminal Code against him.
