Ilgar Mammadov and Tofig Yagublu to remain in pretrial detention

On February 8th the Baku Appeals Court, chaired by Judge Mirzali Abbasov, heard the appeal filed by Yeni Musavat newspaper columnist Tofig Yagublu against the February 4th decision of Nasimi District Court to sentence him to pretrial detention. The judge upheld the original decision.In a separate sitting presided over by Judge Faig Gasimov, the Appeals Court denied the appeal filed by REAL Movement chairman and Baku Political Studies School director Ilgar Mammadov against the same decision of Nasimi District Court.

Background: Ilgar Mammadov and Tofig Yagublu are accused of calling on people to resist the police and block the roads, during the January 24th protest  in the district of Ismayilli. Both of them are charged with violation of public order (Criminal Code/Article 233) and resistance and violence against representative of authorities (Criminal Code/Article 315).
