Lawyer Alaif Hasanov is once again working on the case of imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper journalist/satiric Sakit Zahidov (Mirza Sakit).
A. Hasanov himself reported this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
“Today, I appealed to the Penitentiary Service to meet with Sakit Zahidov. When I receive a positive response, I will go,” said Hasanov. He said it is no accident that he has decided to again work on this case. “In information run in the press it is noted that it is important to put forth a petition for him to be released early,” said Hasanov. “I have also seen information that he is ill and encountering problems sending complaints. Therefore it is necessary to provide assistance.”
Recall that Sakit Zahidov is currently serving in Prison #14 a three-year prison sentence for possession of narcotics (this charge is widely understood to be spurious). He has been in prison since 23 June 2006.
