POLICE COLLECT INFORMATION ON MEDIA RIGHTS INSTITUTE

Today, 28 April, a police major, who came to the office of the Media Rights Institute (MRI), tried to get information regarding the employees of the organization. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) was told this by MRI Program Coordinator Khalid Agaliyev.

According to Agaliyev, Nasimi District Police Department employee, police major Shahin Kerimov who came to the office at about 4.00 p.m. or 5.00 p.m. said that he came according to the order of the chief. The police major noted that they gathered information regarding all the organizations situated in the area. He asked for comprehensive information regarding anyone working at MRI – their names, last names, addresses, and telephone numbers and so on. Khalid Agaliyev refused to give this information. The police major said that the chief ordered to remove the Azerbaijani flag hanging in the balcony of the office. Kh.Agaliyev objected to this order and said that any order regarding this should be presented in written form and should be substantiated. After this the police major left the office.
