On 9 August Rana Zahidova visited imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper satiric/journalist Sakit Zahidov in Prison #14.
R. Zahidova reported to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that there was a problem during the visit.
“Since I didn’t take my daughter’s the birth certificate, but only a copy with me, they didn’t allow her to see her father,” said Zahidova. “The prison representatives stated that Sakit Zahidov may see his daughter after he asks chief of the prison for permission. However, Sakit didn’t want to ask the chief of the prison. I was permitted to visit him, although my daughter wasn’t able to see her father.”
R. Zahidova also noted that Zahidov does not have any serious health problems, but is still experiencing chest pain and rheumatism.
Sakit Zahidov, who has been serving a three year prison sentence for possession of a narcotic, has four daughters and one son. The charges against Zahidov are known to be spurious and Zahidov is internationally recognized as a political prisoner.
