TURAN INFORMATION AGENCY DIRECTOR INTERROGATED IN NATIONAL SECURITY MINISTRY

Turan Information Agency Director Mehman Aliyev was called to the National Security Ministry today, 17 March.

Mehman Aliyev told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) that the NSM investigator, who talked to him, interrogated him in connection with Eynulla Fatullayev’s statements claiming that an NSM officer is suspected for the murder of Elmar Huseynov.
“The investigator asked me why we disseminated Fatullayev’s statements,” said M.Aliyev. “I said that we disseminated his statements thinking that his life is in danger.” M.Aliyev added that although a protocol was written regarding two hour long interrogation, he was not given any document to confirm on what case and kind (for instance, as a witness, suspected figure etc.) he was questioned.
Gundelik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers’ editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev, who is being held in the Baku Investigative Prison, released a statement claiming that late journalist Elmar Huseynov’s murder was organized by high-ranking NSM official Akif Chovdarov, and that Chovdarov himself admitted this to Fatullayev.
