YOUTH ACTIVIST BAKHTIYAR HAJIYEV TRANSFERRED TO HARD-REGIME PRISON

Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was transferred to prison #14, human rights defender Intigam Aliyev, head of defense committee for the youth activists’ rights told IRFS today, July 25th.  

According to the human rights defender, from now on it will be difficult for Hajiyev’s family to visit him in prison in Guzdak, a settlement outside public with limited public transport facilities.
To note, former political prisoner, journalist Mirza Sakit, arrested in 2006 charged with illegal drug possession, was also held in prison # 14.  Subjected to torturing, Sakit was transferred to prison  # 10 on November 2nd , 2008,  after demands  of human rights defenders and international organizations.
BACKGROUND
Criminal case against Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was launched in the end of January, 2011. At that time, he signed a statement of commitment not to leave Ganja city. In the end of February his pre-trial detention was replaced with release under police control.
