Journalists Demand Justice for Rasim Aliyev

On January 12, Baku Grave Crimes Court held a hearing on the criminal case against Elshan Ismayilov, Jamal Mammadov, Arif Aliyev, Samir Mustafayev, and Kanan Madatov, who are being charged in relation to the death of journalist Rasim Aliyev. Numerous journalists were not allowed to attend the court hearing on the pretext that the courtroom was too small. Journalists had also been barred from the previous hearing on January 5.

Journalist Rasim Aliyev’s Murder Case: Lawyers Requests Acquittal for Footballer Javid Huseynov

On January 7, the lawyer for arrested footballer Javid Huseynov Adam Mammadov said he would submit an acquittal motion to the Baku Prosecutor’s Office.   “I have reviewed the criminal case materials.     STATEMENT: IRFS condemns the conviction of journalist Rauf Mirgadirov  Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) resolutely condemns the sentencing of journalist Rauf Mirgadirov to a staggering six years in jail.   On December 28, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes convicted Mirgadirov on a charge of high treason following a series of closed hearings that fail to achieve even a semblance of due process.
