Khadija Ismayil Appealing at Supreme Court

  Imprisoned investigative journalist Khadija Ismayil has filed a cassation appeal in the Supreme Court.   On December 9, the US-based research organization Global Financial Integrity (GFI) published a list of countries that are illegally transferring money overseas. Azerbaijan was 17th on the list, out of 148 countries. Khadija Ismayil’s lawyer meets with her in prison

On December 28, lawyer Fakhraddin Mehdiyev met with investigative journalist Khadija Ismayil in Prison #4, reported the lawyer himself.   According to Mehdiyev, they discussed the details of the draft cassation appeal, which will be submitted in January.   Mehdiyev added that Khadija Ismayil did not have any complaints about the prison conditions or her health.

  Imprisoned journalist Khadija Ismayil was moved to Prison #4 on November 27, her family has reported.   Khadija Ismayil was transferred from Baku Detention Facility to the prison in accordance with legislation.   The Baku Court of Appeal upheld the guilty verdict of the first instance court on November 25.
